Tomorrow marks Chris’s 10th year working for Folgate, find out about what his role entails and how he got into the insurance industry.
What is your role and what do you get up to on a normal day at Folgate?
I am a Senior Underwriter sitting in the Liability Team, however, I also assist the SME Team when required and am the only one in the UW Team, that has cross-class authority.
My day to day role consist of Underwriting New and Renewal business through a panel of Brokers, whether that be by phone, email or face to face.
I also deal with my own panel of Development Brokers, where we are working together to hit mutually agreed targets.
What do you like most about your job?
I enjoy trading day to day with brokers to get a deal done, and we have many very supportive brokers, who make this easy to do.
Where were you employed previously to Folgate?
I joined Folgate Insurance on 1st Feb 2010, prior to that I worked for NIG in Fenchurch Street, and RSA in Hertford.
How did you get into the industry?
I started in the industry, following doing 6 months travelling around Europe. I did a stint of bar work when I got back, and then saw an advert in the local paper that they were looking for people at Royal Insurance.
Starting in the Household department, then 4 years later started on Commercial, and have been there ever since.

Who are you outside of work?
Outside of work, I’ve been married for 23 years and have a 17 year old son.
I love Sport, playing badminton twice a week, the odd game of golf when time permits and am captain of my local cricket club, where I have been playing for 30 years !!
I am also a Spurs Season Ticket holder
I love Travel, which is lucky as we have relatives in both Canada and Australia.
